Stillborn democracy

Medical Science helps us to understand that a stillborn refers to a baby that is born without any signs of life at or after 20 weeks of pregnancy. 

It's a heartbreaking event for families, and it's important for medical professionals to provide support and guidance during such difficult times.

How is this idea applied to weak democratic institutions in emerging markets?

Applying the concept of "stillborn" to democracy in emerging markets suggests that while there was initial attempts to establish democratic systems, they fail to fully materialize or thrive. 

In some emerging market contexts, especially in Nigeria, democratic institutions and processes are established but remain weak or ineffective, akin to a stillborn democracy. 

Factors such as political instability, lack of institutional capacity, electoral fraud, and authoritarian tendencies contribute to the stunted growth of democracy in these settings. 

Efforts to promote democracy in emerging markets must address these challenges to ensure that democratic principles take root and flourish.
